Surprise or Not

Thursday was the day before my dad's birthday, so Mom, Callie, and I went to the Burger Dive and Dairy Queen to buy gift cards for him.  At suppertime my family was talking about a friend who went to the Burger Dive.  I asked my mom if she saw him there.  She stared at me. My sisters started asking if we went to the Burger Dive.  I tried to remind my mom, "Mom, don't you remember? We went there today for Dad's gift card. Don't you remember?" She stared pointedly at me.  Dad laughed and asked if we got him a Burger Dive gift card.  We all burst out laughing. It doesn't end there though.  Mom began talking about how busy the Burger Dive was and my sister, Callie said, "Not as busy as Dairy Queen!" Another birthday gift cover blown!

Carol

My neighbor Carol is OLD . Sometimes I think she has a youth elixir that keeps her living. I also think she is part amphibian. Once it was around eighty degrees out and she was wearing a long sleeve shirt, a sweater, a jacket, and a coat outside . Carol is also creepy. She stands outside on the edge of her lawn and stares at us freakily as we ride by on our bikes with that vulture stature. You know, the hunched shoulders, that evil look in her eye. I can see her as a witch, boiling things like rats' teeth and snake bones in a cauldron in her basement. She has even given us some apples that looked like they had been through some sort of horrific science experiments! Carol sneaks up on people too. Once my sister Bethany was minding her own business coloring with chalk when she heard, "Yawant some grapes?" in that gravelly tone of hers. Carol had snuck up on her once again. I hope her youth elixir runs out soon.

Yellowstone Trip

It was the summer of 2017 when it all happened. We stopped at Soda Butte (a non active geyser on the side of the  road) for our annual trip past it into the valley. Most people don't know this, but it you walk down the path around Soda Butte, there is a beautiful landscape of streams and brooks that run over colorful rocks and sand. My dad is sort of a nature nerd so we always take off our shoes and go wading around looking for petrified wood and agates. It's always super fun, but this time something happened that ruined the rest of the trip for our whole family. This year our cousins were with us, so it was fun for us to show them around. My dad's cousin jumped across a larger stream with no trouble at all. My mom, in the meantime, usually has dad carry her across, thought she could jump over the stream with the same agility, leapt across and landed with both feet on the rocks on the other side. As she landed she heard her knee pop out to the side and she crumpled

My Cat-Dog

My Cat- Dog by Olivia I’m on a case to figure out if I own cat-dog. I think my cat is turning into one! Here’s my evidence so far. My Chloe (that’s my cat’s name) often scratches at the door to be let out. “Squirrel! Squirrel!” she tells me. At first, I don’t believe her. I decide to check it out. “I declare! There really is a squirrel!” I tell her. Sometimes, she pulls herself along a carpeted floor with her front paws. I bet she’s too in love with the floor to leave it. I’ve seen my cousin’s corgi do something like that before, except I don’t think he was in love with the floor. I have another suspicion. My cat-dog chases her tail! I’ve definitely seen a dog do that. Well, I guess she doesn’t chase her tail, but she does bite it! Sometimes she even growls at it. “Ooh! Ooh!” she tells me. “My tail is moving! It’s wiggling! It’s so exciting! I must get it! I must get it! I’m a cat-dog so I must catch my tail!” This is so weird for me. It must stop. Hmm. Perhaps, No…. Wait………Y

Different Views of Spring

(Olivia and Chloe)              Spring is a fun season for both me and my cat. We both view it differently. I'll start with my cat. First, her name is Chloe. Each day, she dreams that I will let her outside to frolic in the green grass and murder one or two or three birds, just like the good old days. Let me tell you, it got old of seeing feathers on our lawn- even worse was cleaning up the mess. You know, dead birds can't clean up after themselves. Chloe has a mind of her own. She expects someone will do what she says. Whatever that is. After I stopped releasing my cat to do as she pleased- kill animals, leave her messes on people's yards, (that includes dead animals) and trespass in backyards- I decided what she does want. TO GO OUTSIDE! It makes sense. Spring is when the birds, bunnies and mice like to tantalize the predator who can't kill them. My cat wants revenge. I think it's pure entertai
